Book Arts Residency

Seattle Print Arts in partnership with Editions Studio is offers year-long residencies to 4 artists, which provide access for Black and Indigenous artists to create artists’ books, broadsides, posters, and other works on paper at Editions in Seattle, WA.

 

Call for artists.

This residency aims to assist underrepresented artists and provide participants with the tools, connections, and support to develop and enhance skills needed to further artistic and professional development.  Editions and Seattle Print Arts believe in the radical power of print, and selected artists are equipped with new ways to contribute to their communities, broader artistic, book arts, and printmaking communities, and the greater cultural vitality of the region. 

The artists selected for the 2023 residency are Esther Ervin, Jordan Hayward, T'leeuh Antone, and Zahyr Lauren.

Benefits for Artists:

This residency culminates in a show at Editions and… 

  • Artists get dedicated workspace and storage.  

  • Artists receive a $750 stipend from Seattle Print Arts.    

  • Artists are paid $50/hour to meet with a book arts/printmaking mentor for up to 6 hours, spread throughout the year.  

  • Artists receive a one-year Seattle Print Arts membership.

Expectations for Artists

  • Artists produce a small body of work that falls under the Book Arts umbrella to be featured in a show at the end of their residency.

  • Artists produce 2 mini broadsides each for Editions’ Poems in the Mail subscription service, the proceeds from which make this residency possible.
