Flat Back Binding with Hot Foil Ornament

The flat back is the basic hard cover binding and probably the most ubiquitous form of codex. In this workshop, participants will learn to prepare this traditional structure by hand: assembling textblocks from pre-cut materials and emblazoning text or images with hot foil before casing in.
Materials:
Book cloth, paper, hot foil, thread, and glue will be provided
Please bring the following materials, if possible. The studio has limited quantities of these items.
Pencil
Scissors
Bonefolder
Bookbinding Awl
Bookbinding or Embroidery Needles
Xacto Type Craft Knife
Cutting Mat
Metal Edged Ruler
Glue Brush (we recommend a 1" flat brush)
All Classes are held at Editions, located at 6520 5th Ave S #114 Seattle, WA 98108. Go through the red door (or big white door if it’s open) and turn right past the blacksmiths.

Cancellation Policy
Withdrawals 15 or more days before the beginning of a workshop will receive a full refund of tuition and supply fee, minus a $25 processing charge.
Withdrawals 4-14 days prior to the workshop will receive a 50% refund of tuition and supply fee, minus a $25 processing charge.
No refunds are possible for withdrawals 3 or fewer days in advance of the first day of class, or for no-shows.
Exceptions to this policy are only made for documented medical emergencies.
