Relief Printing with Modern Material
Relief Printing with Modern Material
Making organic textures from synthetic materials
Monday, March 25th, 2023
6:00 pm - 9:00 pm
This workshop will explore a printmaking process perhaps most closely related to collagraph.
Thin layers of paper or foil or tape are applied to a piece of bookboard and then encased in plastic and shrink wrapped so as to produce a plate with an organic texture. This is a process that lends itself well to experimentation and embracing spontaneity in the creative process.
Bring a partner! Sign up together and you each save $10.
By using plastic film wrapped around a firm board, we will apply heat and shrink the film to create ridges that can be printed on a letterpress. Techniques for setting up imagery will be discussed, but this process is ideal for abstract expression and textural exploration.
Tools & Materials: In addition to sketches and ideas, please bring some pens or pencils to transfer your designs. If you have carving tools, great! Some may be available; ink and paper will be provided.
All Classes are held at Editions, located at 6520 5th Ave S #114 Seattle, WA 98108. Go through the red door (or big white door if it’s open) and turn right past the blacksmiths.
If you have any questions about this class, please contact the coordinator: sarah@editions.studio.
