Paper Marbling Workshop
Paper Marbling Workshop
Paper Marbling Crash Course
Saturday & Sunday
May 3-4, 2025
1:00 pm - 5:00 pm
Dive deep into the ancient art of painting on water and pull your own one of a kind, mesmerizing prints. This two-day workshop gives historical context and hands on, step-by-step instructions so that by the end of the course, students will know how to make their own marbled paper in both the accessible Japanese tradition well as the more involved and visually familiar Turkish tradition.
The first day, students learn the art of suminagashi, the Japanese traditional technique of floating ink on water. You will also prepare for the second day, by applying mordant to paper. The second day, you will learn to marble using paint and thickened water on the paper you prepared the day before. You will practice a variety of raking techniques, and build up your pulling skills.
The instructor brings all materials necessary to the class. Please be advised that marbling is a messy sport, and dress appropriately.
Marbling is a great adventure to have with a friend. Get a $40 discount for every person who signs up with you!
There must be 5 people for this class to run.
Unlike the rest of our workshops, this will not be held at Editions, but at a nearby location. You will be given the address about a week away from the workshop.
If you have any questions about this class, please contact the coordinator sarah@editions.studio.
