Sewn Boards Binding
Sewn Boards Binding
Sunday, January 26th, 2025
12:00 - 6:00 pm
This book structure opens flat, making it a good choice for journals and sketchbooks.
Sewn boards is an excellent structure for new binders. You will work with common bookbinding tools, materials, techniques, and principles such as grain direction, tidy application of adhesive, and measuring one component of the book to fit another.
The Sewn Boards binding is a modern adaptation of an ancient board attachment method. It can be dressed up or down with a variety of spine treatments, board-covering materials, and edge decoration techniques. It can be constructed quickly, lends itself to edition work, and can be made in a sparsely equipped home studio.
Please bring the following with you:
Pencil
Scissors
Bonefolder
Bookbinding Awl
Xacto Type Craft Knife
Cutting Mat
Metal Edged Ruler
Glue Brush (we recommend a 1" flat brush)
All Classes are held at Editions, located at 6520 5th Ave S #104 Seattle, WA 98108. Go through the red door (or big white door if it’s open) and turn right past the blacksmiths.
